In high school, I wrote a poem about the fundamental need for myth and belief that is common to the species known as man. I found the poem again, and decided that it fit in today as much as it did in 1997, so I'm posting it now for you to ponder.

Need for Myth

The last year of high school, I had a dream.
A dream of a world without dreams,
Where we were all computers,
The computer was king.

Nothing was left to chance
Nothing was unknown
No one cared about anything

And as I wandered my way through the streets
My heart sank
The tears fell
Myth was no more
Knowledge set in

Lost in life without reason
The disillusioned minds were roaming
Emotions lost

I woke from this dream in a start
And realized the importance of mystery in life
Surrounding myself with flowers and finery
Creative energy flowed like never before

Every petal was a question
Life was a journey
Without myth and mystery life has no question
No need for creativity
And no need to go on.
